the eulogy august 29 2011 i have had this day marked on my calendar for seven days now. one for each year that forest lawn film has existed. yes you may have noticed i said 'existed' as in it no longer exists. by the websites last post date you may see that there hasn't been much posted on here in the last little while. truthfully forest lawn has been an old man on his death bed since then and now i'm pulling the plug and saying my good byes. forest lawn has three members in it and we want different things at different times. sometimes it's fun, more times it's difficult. this is the right move to make in order for all of us to achieve what we want in the future with nothing to tie us down. it wasn't an easy decision to pull the plug and the old man most certainly fought it, but like i said, this is the best option for us, and me more importantly. i say 'me more importantly' because this has always been my 'baby' and as you can imagine i'm a little upset that i never got to see this baby grow into a teenager and succeed. this website has been up since february 23 2009 and over the past 2 years 6 months and 6 days we've had 3,459 unique people visit the website from 53 different countries including canada, the united states, brazil, germany, russia, england, australia, france, italy, and india just to name a few. there has been at least one visitor from every province and territory in canada. the united states have also been viewing the website, except in idaho, utah, montana, south dakota, arkansas, alabama, vermont and new hampshire. but im pretty sure those states are for suckers so i'm not too sad. to all of those folk who had visited the website, i'm sorry there wasn't anything more for you to view. there used to be a secret webpage that would lead you to the 'history' but now you can find that under news. i mentioned that forest lawn has been around for seven years. it started as an idea before i even thought about film school and i'm surprised that it has lasted this long. my mind tends to wander and i get bored often of names and things like that - so this has been one constant from the last seven years of my life. through forest lawn i have realized my dream of making a short film. along the way i have met some great people, learned some valuable lessons and more importantly have been humbled due to some failures. there was the dipt commercial, 'monday', and 'portrait'. three projects which have humbled me to no end. now, i am well prepared for what lies ahead of me in this business. naturally i will start something up again. i always liked having a website to update people, and having production blogs and pictures and so on and so forth. i love sharing the world i live in and when the time comes to settle into something again, i most certainly will, and you'll be the first to know. now on to logistics. the websites hosting will run out in 2012, february to be exact, and i do not plan on renewing it. i'll keep the website up and running until then but don't expect anything new to come out of it. it is now a historical statue waiting for someone to stop onto it and read what it was all about. my twitter handle (@frstlwn) will remain active, until i decide to change the name somewhere along the road. but i will keep all you twits posted on that. the Facebook group - bye bye. the emails that i've set up will ride until 2012, so be sure to stop emailing me by then. i've always said that forest lawn was a brotherhood and i want nothing more than my friends to succeed. so while this website is down, you all should visit the links in the 'friends' section to keep updated with some talented people who i admire. lastly, i'll present the only project ever completed under forest lawn film. my short film OF HEART AND LIMBS. enjoy. if you would like to send a review, i would love to hear it. please email me at cody@forestlawnfilm.com. i have one copy of the dvd left which comes with some bonus features. if you want to own a piece of 'history' then please visit the store section of this website. thank you everyone for your support over the years - you have not heard the last of me. i promise. |
